Today is a day I always look back to and remember when my baby girl was born. It is a day I think changed my life forever in a very good way. I may have made many mistakes in my 50 years of life but I can never and will never call the day Carolyn Angela was born as anything other than one of the best days of my life. I have remembered that day, now 29 years later with great love, joy and peace in my heart and soul. It is like it was only yesterday that I held that little baby in my arms for the first time and smiled at her as she looked back at me. She was not a greedy baby and for the first day did not feed at all. I was worried but the nurses told me not to as it was probable that she was full from all the food I had been eating prior to her birth. Tia Brenda was ecstatic that night when Carolyn was born. In the years to follow she was nanny and aunt and grandma to this child that lit up our world. Grandma Ada was also very proud and please with this new addition to the family. Yes, Carolyn Angela, you were and are a blessing that came one June 26th and stayed to light up our world.

Daugther of my life, baby of my heart and child of my soul YOU are everything to me.

It is considered one of the most extreme sports in the world, but skydiving can also be considered the best, it all depends on who you ask. Many people I spoke to feel that jumping out of a perfectly functioning aircraft is the craziest idea. Maybe it is, but for me, it proved to be the single most incredible and amazing lifetime experiences. My tandem buddy, Lyal Waddell was superb, professional, and provided me with a sense of determination and confidence. His instructions were simple to understand and I knew that I was in great hands with Waddell. Keith Levefque was our photographer/videographer and was also a real character who helped me in cementing the idea that skydiving was great.
The Boogie in Belize group from Tsunami Skydivers Incorporated is no stranger to the people of Ambergris Caye and Belize. For the past five years many eager spectators have flocked the beach annually to the landing drop near Coco Locos Bar, north of the bridge. The day is enjoyed while taking in the scenery as the divers jump out of a shark painted plane, open their colorful parachute and land on the ground in a perfectly safe condition. And while many prefer to enjoy the scene, many also like to be front and center of the action.

Once you have made the difficult decision on whether to experience a tandem jump (skydiving with two divers strapped to each other), all you need to do is show up at SunBreeze Hotel where one signs up for the jump of one’s life. “Once you follow the instructions, all will be perfect and it will be quite the memory,” expressed my tandem buddy. I knew that if I wanted to challenge my colleagues at work and share my experience, then there was no reason not to follow those instructions.

I found myself seated to the extreme front of the Shark plane, strapped with all the implements for skydiving. As I sat in the plane, I began experiencing flashbacks from the many comments my colleagues told me throughout the week; the fearing of having an “accident” while out of the plane. There was no way I would go through that embarrassment at work, so I became self determined knowing I had to overcome the challenge.

As we went higher into the skies, it began felling cooler and from what Waddell told me, it was normal because of the altitude. I was carefully fastened to him and when we came to a height of 13,000 feet, the first group of skydivers plummeted to the ground. I knew it was just a matter of minutes and the challenge would be over with. Then, Waddell turned to me and asked, “Are you ready?” My response was quick, “Let’s get the ball game rolling.” The plane made a second spin over the jump area and then the second group made their jump. When we turned for the third time, Waddell said we are ready. I gulped and a big mouthful of cold air rushed to my lungs. We slowly moved to the door and once we were in our jumping position, I turned at both cameras for a photo shot, then the moment of truth arrived. I jumped out of the plane to a speed of about 120 miles per hour. It was an indescribable dive through the air, slicing through the clouds the way birds do. Enjoying the bird’s eye view of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye was fabulous and I turned my eyes in all directions trying to identify different locations on the island. As we quickly descended, I stared at the skydivers who had jumped before me and then I saw Levefque, the cameraman, skydive in front of me. I knew that was an opportunity to take a picture and video of the jump. I proudly waved at Levefque and a huge smiled took over my face as a sign of great accomplishment. Then after a few minutes, before I realized, the parachute popped open.

When the parachute opened, I was jerked up a little into the air and the descent became slower. After keenly observing Waddell for a few minutes, I was given reigns of the parachute which I proudly controlled by pulling the ropes in the directions we wanted to turn; I pulled right and then we both began spinning. It was getting me a little bit dizzy and then I quickly pull to the left. Before I realized, I was cruising and controlling the parachute all by myself. The sad reality of everything is that it was too much excitement for a few minutes and we were gradually making our way down. After about 12 minutes into the jump, Waddell took full control back of the parachute. I knew it was almost over. He then turned into some clouds then we burst into some gray looking clouds, which was spectacular and awesome.

Then it was time for the landing on the drop area. We began descending slowly and felt Waddell tap me on by back which was a signal to slightly lift my feet upwards. I did as instructed and by the time I realized, I was on the ground.

It was all incredible and I felt a sense of accomplishment. No doubt I surprised a lot of people, including myself. I can assure that the little nervousness for the unknown, is well rewarded by the experience you accomplished once you do the tandem jump. It finally, came true! Freefalling was absolutely amazing and for anyone to try to compare that to anything else in the world it is virtually impossible. I’ve tried several things in my life, but nothing is compared to skydiving. Once the parachute was deployed and we slowed down looking out over the landscape, it was one of the most peaceful moments I’ve ever had. If you’ve never taken a dive before, there enough reasons like mine that I encourage others to experience a challenge becoming a reality. If you haven’t made up you mind, you have until February 23rd to put on record what I would consider one of the most memorable days of your life. I definitely owe it all to Lyal Waddell, Keith Levefque and all the staff of Tsunami Skydivers Incorporated. I said to my self when getting into the plane, “I don’t know when but, you will be seeing me again.” I can proudly beat my chest and say, “I did it!” How about you?

AMBER Alert Canceled for 4 Year Old Georgia Girl

The State of Georgia canceled the Amber Alert early Thursday morning (6-11) after the girl was found safe in Prince George County, Maryland. The suspect was taken into custody at that time. Georgia authorities have charged the suspect with one count of kidnapping and he may face additional charges.

The State of Georgia issued the Amber Alert Wednesday morning (6-10) after the girl was abducted in Lawrenceville on Tuesday (6-9). The suspect may be headed to Houston Texas and has threatened to kill the child. Lawrenceville is approximately 35 miles north east of Atlanta.

Ingrid Reyes a 4 year old Hispanic female, 3', 30 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair. She has straight, shoulder length hair and was last seen wearing pajama bottoms and a pink Barbie T-shirt.

The suspect is Alejandro Humberto Guzman, an Hispanic male, 29 years old, 5' 10", 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. His hair is short on top and long on the sides. He usually wears a blue baseball cap with a "T" on it.

The suspect vehicle is a gray 1993 Honda Accord with Texas tag number NCK 136

Anyone with information is asked to call the Gwinnett County Police Department at 770-513-5000 or dial 911.

This was the first year I was unable to be with you all for Christmas and New Years Day is here and I am filled with so much love and wishes for you. 2008 was a wonderful year even though at times things occured that would have been better if they had never. Anyway, we learn and we grow and we continue to enjoy life. The love for one's self and the love we can share with others is the foundation of a wonderful life. Moiney could help to ease the pain but if we aren't Paris Hilton or Demi Moore we don't need to be sad all day, every day. Life is made ofr us to enjoy and there are lots of things we can do without money. Sharing time with friends and family is one such thing.

The scenery is so wonderful at Panto-Ha. The trees are so many and the layout of the land is untouched by anything other than nature and a bit of cleaning done by Gabriel, the caretaker and his brother-in-law, Juan.
Abel just enjoys Panto-Ha and Jonathan,Gabriel's two year old son loves him too.
This weekend he even got use to the idea of calling us mama and papa. So now we are really family!! He also enjoyed playing Abel's guitar. I guess we will have another musician in the family!!!

There are two horses on the resort ad you can go horse-back riding if you want to. Many of the guest find it very different to do this and it adds to the things you can't really do in the city.

It is really a place unlike many others.

A LOVER'S BRIDGE ACROSS A STREAM AT PANTO-HA

The ducks at Panto-Ha Resort are at home on the stream that cut the resort in two parts. You can go cross the fruit orchard by way of this little bridge.

It offers a romantic view of the place. The ducks eventually come out of the water and walk on the land and fly abit too, but they never fly away.

Unlike many other resorts, Panto-Ha is home to many trees and offers the possibility of hiking among the trees. The cocnut palms offer coconuts and shade for the walker and the horses.

The scenery and the breeze that come through the windows are to die for. It is the ideal holiday resort.

There were no eggs in these well made little homes for some of our friends, birds of the lagoon. We didn't see them around but their homes are safe. When I was younger I would take those little eggs and the nests home but now that I have grown up I realize the birds need to continue their existence if this universe is to continue. So, I tell all my students and friends to enjoy nature but to leave it as we find it.

This day on the lagoon was very special indeed.

Suddenly, while kayaking on the lagoon, we saw a tree and it had a nest in it. So I go to take a picture and set the camera up so it gets a view of the inside of the nest. What do I see then? Two speckly eggs. So we take its picture and leave them there for creation to do its thing!

Talk about never being too old to try something. This was a great weekend and I went kayaking for the first time. It was fabulous. We went out into the lagoon and had a really nice time in an area seldom visited by kayakers and we took some really nice pictures.

Panto-Ha Resort with cabanas is really a nice place for those you can rough ot away from the tv, computer and just sit back and relax or get that well needed rest you deserve away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Gabriel and his wife Mari and thier son, Jonathan live on the resort with Mari's brother, Jose who helps them to work the land and keep the resort going for the guests that arrive daily.

Just over the rail at Le Abuelo Restaurant in Hauy Pix is the tourist and locals attraction - CATFISH BY THE HUNDREDS we readily feed on all the chips, torillas, shrimps shellings and other bits of food that is thrown to them every second of the day.

By the way, Catfish Soup is a real delicacy! I had the pleasure of eating this fine soup today. No wonder the Chinese in Corozal Town, Belize were scooping it out of the bay by the market at one point in time before they were stopped by the government as these fish help to keep the bay clean. While the skin is thicker than the normal fish we eat, the meat is the same.

If you can try soe one day, I recommend you try it.

At Panto-Ha Resort in Xul-Ha I had the pleasure of seeing giant caterpillars on a tree trunk. They seem to just be grouped together there but in reality they must be sucking at the tree for every five seconds or so one of them would excrete and the little bulb-like formations of excrement would fall to the foot of the tree were they heaped up.

I have no idea what the butterfies look like that come from these huge caterpillars but I guess they must be really pretty. I will have to ask my friend, Greg Itzab who is Science teacher at CCC and CCC ACE.He may be able to tell me more about these caterpillars that were as long as three inches.

It is definitely NATURE AT ITS BEST!

The Moon turned an eerie shade of red for people in the western hemisphere late Wednesday and early Thursday, recreating the eclipse that saved Christopher Columbus more than five centuries ago.
In a lunar eclipse, the Sun, Earth and Moon are directly aligned and the Moon swings into the cone of shadow cast by the Earth.
But the Moon does not become invisible, as there is still residual light that is deflected towards it by our atmosphere. Most of this refracted light is in the red part of the spectrum and as a result the Moon, seen from Earth, turns a coppery, orange or even brownish hue.
Lunar eclipses have long been associated with superstitions and signs of ill omen, especially in battle.
The defeat of the Persian king Darius III by Alexander the Great in the Battle of Gaugamela in 331 BC was foretold by soothsayers when the Moon turned blood-red a few days earlier.
And an eclipse is credited with saving the life of Christopher Columbus and his crew in 1504.
Stranded on the coast of Jamaica, the explorers were running out of food and faced with increasingly hostile local inhabitants who were refusing to provide them with any more supplies.
Columbus, looking at an astronomical almanac compiled by a German mathematician, realised that a total eclipse of the Moon would occur on February 29, 1504.
